Today Seed to Fibre opens this seasons program with the Frank Callens Boys & Girls Club in the E Broad Historic District of Savannah. Since Seed to Fibre has been providing activities and working with local non profits, schools and museums in Savannah, we have been able to revive the lost art of making silk to this region of Georgia. The past two years Seed to Fibre has been demonstrating and providing activities and classes that give a brief history of how the manufacturing of silk was attempted here in Savanna, and puts in perspective the story of how silk fiber and fabric is made from a silkworm. We also explore a little natural history and learn the science of creating textiles and textile art. This year our five week demo is at the Frank Callen's Boys & Girls Club. The demo will be about velvet painting and it's connection to Georgia. We will also introduce how assemblage and create digital prints with your velvet painting. The sponsor for this five week session is Morningstar Cultural Arts Group. The Seed to Fibre Mobile Studio will also have a tutorial available for the velvet painting video and future podcast in the works. The Seed to Fibre Textile Art Program and Traveling Studio would also like to thank our digital lab collaborator Print All Over Me located in Swainsboro Georgia's for partnering with us to showcase our digital print on textiles activities at Super Musen Sunday and Museum Store Sunday. |
